Jeep-expedition “The Great Baikal Adventure” will take place in Barguzin valley, which formerly had the mysterious name “Bargudjin-Tokum.” The participants of the expedition will take part in an incredible adventure around the most sacred places of Pribaikalie (the region to the West of Lake Baikal), visit the picturesque Holy Nose peninsula and other unique natural monuments, holy places and ancient monasteries, have a hot bath in thermal springs, and enjoy the tender Siberian sun. Type of the tour:: jeep expedition Itinerary: Irkutsk – Sludyanka – Kultushnaya – Ulan-Ude – Kotokelskoye – Ust-Barguzin – Holy Nose – Alla Resort – spa Kucheger – spa Umhey – Barguzin – spa Goryachinsk – Posolskoye – Irkutsk. Length: 2500 km. Duration: 12 daya/11 nights Period: all year round Group size: 1-2 people, 3-5 people or 6-7 people. Day 1 Arrive in Irkutsk. Excursion around the historical centre of the city. Travel by picturesque road along coast of Lake Baikal to the city of Sludyanka, the mineralogical pearl of Pribaikalie. Excursion to private museum “Semi-Precious Stones of Baikal”, containing real treasures of Siberia. After lunch in a comfortable caf?, travel to the tourist base Kultushnaya, situated on the shore of the most popular bay of Baikal, Posolsky Sor. Day 2 Travel to the capital of the Buryat Republic, Ulan-Ude. Excursion around the city, including a visit to the Ethnographical Museum of Transbaikal Peoples. Traditional Buryat lunch is in real felt ger (yurt). Visit the major Buddhist temple of Russia, which is an outstanding example of traditional religious architecture. The body of Hamo Lama Etigilov, which has not yet begun to decay since his death, is kept on display here. Day 3 Cross through the mountain pass “Pithi Gora” by twisted and picturesque road. Visit the village of Baturino, famous for the only Women’s Monastery in Buryatia, which is located here. Travel to the village of Ust-Barguzin through a sparsely populated part of taiga, where you can catch glimpses of Lake Baikal through the trees. Stop for lunch en route on the shore of big forest lake Kotokelskoye. On an island in the middle of this lake, the ruins of an old monastery and church are preserved. Sauna. Day 4Cross the Barguzin river by ferry into the territory of the Zabaikalsk National Park. Travel to the only large peninsula on Baikal, Holy Nose, across the narrow, sandy Chivirkyisk isthmus. Water excursion around the most picturesque places of Baikal – The Chivirkuisky Bay: view of rock islands, babbling brooks and mysterious capes, to which many legends are devoted. Visit archipelago Ushkanie Islands – the habitat of the world’s only fresh-water seal – the Baikal nerpa. Swimming in hot spring of Zmeinaya Creek. Fishing. Day 5Climbing the highest peak of the Holy Nose peninsula (1877m), where there is an astonishingly impressive panoramic view of the deep-blue Barguzin Bay and the saturated green isthmus, shining in the sun by the crystal lake. Day 6Travel to the resort Alla, which is situated in a rocky canyon, the valley of which extends into the Barguzin Mountain range and is the source of ten different mineral springs. Walk around the canyon. Day 7Travel along the Barguzin Valley, visiting the most traditional Buryat villages Kurumkan and Ulunhan, which provide a vivid introduction to the traditional homes and culture of the local population. Visit Kurumkansk Datsan, which is the Russian centre of meditation. Visit recreational spa Kucheger, whose thermal water is famous far beyond the borders of Buryatia for its curing effect. Accommodation is in mystifying taiga in Umhey, also famous for its curing radon springs. Sauna. Day 8Sightseeing in the Barguzin Valley: unusual rocks of Suvinsk Saxsons castle, situated at the foot of Ikatsk range; natural landscape monument Ininsk rock garden; and the holy valley of the sacred stone Buhe-Shulun, the spirit of which is its master. Travel to Barguzin. Day 9Travel to the welcoming beaches of Goryachinsk spa. Walk to the lake Duhovoye, famous for the tastiest fish in Buryatia. Day 10 Travel to the old Russian village of Posolskoye, which used to be a major port during XVIII-XIX centuries. En route, cross by ferry over the Selenga river – the deepest river which flows into Baikal. Day 11 Visit the unique monument of history, religion and architecture of Zabaikalie: Posolsk Spaso-Preobrazhensk monastery, which was erected in the XVII century in honor of important historical events. Return to Irkutsk. Festive dinner, devoted to the end of the expedition. Day 12Departure

The starting and ending points of the expedition may be customized to participants’ preferences out of the following cities: Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude. The itinerary of the expedition may be extended with additional fee-paid services such as visits to ancient monasteries, to the Church of Blagoveshenie (Baikalo-Kudara), to Bogorodsko-Kazanskaya Church (Tvorogovo), additional excursions on the water, and fishing.
