The Gobi Expedition – is a rapid fly of off-road vehicles among the treasures of the Great Desert, which lets you experience the incredible greatness and beauty of one of the most ancient civilizations. During three weeks the caravan passes the winding shores of Lake Baikal and the mouth of dried rivers, travels past the 300 meter tall sand dunes of Hongorin-Els and the boundless labyrinths of Hermen-Tsav Canyon. The caravan will visit the legendary capital of Chingiss Khan and famous Buddhist monasteries. During the expedition the participants will go up to the extinct volcano Noen-Uul and walk around the picturesque canyon of Elyn-Am National Park, and will swim in “dead” Lake Orog-Nuur, famous for its population of brightly-colored birds. The itinerary leads through distant and not studied parts of Mongolia with your camera you may capture images of jeirans, eagles, steppe foxes and grey herons. You might also meet some of the mysterious inhabitants of the sand dunes of South Gobi – the snow-man Almas and the giant worm Olgoy-Horhoy Founds and souvenirs: it is hard to predict in advance, what desert Gobi, will present its researchers. En route you are sure to meet ancient stones: bones and dinosaurs’ eggs and giant tortures, half-precious stones and semi-precious stones, the temple ruins and monasteries are rich in archeological finds. The type of the tour: jeep-expedition Itinerary: Irkutsk-Kyahta-Ulaan-Baator-Mandalgov –Dalanzadgad-Bayandalay – Noen –Sevrey – Gurvantes – Baynhogor – Arvayher – Harhorin – Ulan-Baator – Kyahta –Irkutsk. Length: 6000 km., из них 3 000 km. of it through the Gobi Desert. Duration: 20days / 19 nights. Period: all year round. Group size: 1-2 people, 3-5 people, 6-7 people Day 1Arrive in Irkutsk. Excursion around the city, introducing the historical center, famous buildings, unique monasteries and cathedrals. Visit museum of local lore, history and economy. Traditional dinner consisting of Siberian cuisine. Day 2Travel to ancient merchant’s city Kyahta by picturesque road along the pearl of Siberia, sacred Lake Baikal, visiting the capital of the Buryat Republic, Ulan-Ude and the centre of Buddhism in Russia, Ivolginsk Datsan. Day 3 Cross the border at the international border crossing “Altan-Bulag”. Travel to Ulan-Baator, Mongolia. En route visit the revolutionary city Sukhe-Bator. Enjoy a traditional dinner consisting of Mongolian cuisine. Day 4Travel to the Gobi Desert and the city of Dalanzadgad known as the “City of 70 Wells”. A twisted steppe road will lead to memories of ancient nomad tribes, unexpected graves and stone monuments. Visit a sacred cave near Mandalgov, whose narrow entrance hides a great prayer hall. Day 5 Cross the pass of the Gurvan-Saihany-Nuruu mountain range (2010 metres), which is a wonderful place to view the incredible landscape of the Gobi Desert. Walk around the national park Elyn-Am, famous for its picturesque canyon, the bottom of which is covered by ice even in the summer. Take an excursion to the museum of local lore, history and economy, whose expositions contain unique collections of wild life and desert and paleontological finds. Day 6Visit traditional provincial settlements, introducing life of nomads: Bayandalay, Noen, Sevrey. Visit the extinct volcano Noen-Uul (2397 m) will give you an opportunity to enjoy its magnificent panorama, while swimming in the pure and cool water of its crater will help you restore strength. Travel to the famous sand dunes Hongoryn-Els, the biggest and highest in the Mongolian Gobi. Day 7Travel through the quicksand of Hongoryn-Els, passing over high hills. Visit Gurvantes – the most southern village in the Gobi. Ride by lifeless and non-inhabited places in the Gobi Desert. Day 8Travel by a picturesque road among haloxylon stop in one of the most attractive and difficult to reach canyons of Mongolia, Hermen-Tsav, which is a real masterpiece of natural architecture. Day 9Excursion around Hermen-Tsav Canyon, featuring endless labyrinths carved by wind and unusual sand sculptures. Natural teeth like walls with towers make the canyon look like the remains of an ancient civilization, lost among steppes and sands. Visit a flourishing oasis of intense green that provides to contrasts the hot desert landscapes. Day 10Travel to the paleontological “El Dorado”, the world-famous Nemegetinsk Hollow. Millions of years ago waves of once lapped the shore of a great body of water, where now rest the fossils of enormous dinosaurs. During the walk the participants of the expedition will have a chance to collect a limited number of fossils for their own personal collections. Day 11Pass over the Nemegetu mountain range, whose hills are carved with numerous deep canyons with walls covering cool caves and picturesque hollows Day 12 Visit “dead” Lake Orog-Nuur, famous for its variety of birds and situated at the foot of one of Mongolia’s four thousand meter mountains, the top of which is covered by snow and ice. Swim in a lake. Travel to Bayanhongor. Day 13Visit the health resort Arshan, situated in a solitary green valley, among meadows, where healthy hot springs run. Day 14Travel by famous “Road of the Millennia” to Arvayher. Visit legendary city Harhorin, the capital of the ancient Mongolian empire of Chingiss Khan. Excursion around Harhorin, including a visit to the most ancient monastery of Mongolia, Erdene-Zuu, which is surrounded by a wall of 108 stupas. Walk to the ruins of ancient monasteries and towers. Day 15Visit the ruins of a monastery in the mountains. Return to Ulan- Baator. Various shopping opportunities exist, including goods characteristic only of Mongolia, goods made of high quality leather, woolen luxurious carpets with classical or national ornament, and goods of high quality cashmere. Many antique souvenirs are also available, including: cold steel, goods made of stone, ritual accessories, and objects of applied arts. Day 16Return to Irkutsk. Festive dinner celebrating the culmination of the expedition. Day 17Departure Days 18, 19, 20Additional days.
